During the last quarter of 2004, after an extensive review of the finances of Feeding Santa Fe (at that time, Food for Santa Fe), the Board of Directors created an endowment fund with the Santa Fe Community Foundation, which manages the Feeding Santa Fe Fund. This modest fund began with existing financial resources and contributions from foundations, individuals from our mailing list, faith communities, volunteers and from several donor advisor funds within the SFCF.
The income the fund generates assists Feeding Santa Fe in meeting ongoing operating expenses. As an all-volunteer organization, this income is primarily used to purchase food items to fill the grocery bags distributed to hungry families and individuals who come to our drive-thru food pantry each week.
Feeding Santa Fe has been proud to partner with the highly-regarded Santa Fe Community Foundation that has committed its resources to “building philanthropy that is robust, effective and focused on critical issues facing communities”.
Feeding Santa Fe has applied for and received grants from the SFCF, on the allowed every-other-year basis. In addition, we benefit from the Foundation’s Donor Advised Fund process by which individuals and families can learn about and support Feeding Santa Fe’s efforts to alleviate hunger. We are most grateful for the confidence the Santa Fe Community Foundation has in our work.
