A Little History
Although Food for Santa Fe has been in operation since 1979, many people confused our drive-thru food pantry with The Food Depot, the local food bank that serves nine counties in Northern New Mexico, including homeless and domestic abuse shelters, youth, senior and other church-based programs.
We rent warehouse space in the front building at 1222 Siler Road from Angel Depot – the entity of Kitchen Angels and Food Depot, both located on the same property, Kitchen Angels in the same front building and The Food Depot in the large facility in the rear of the property. With the location and with Food for Santa Fe and The Food Depot sharing the word “food” in our names—no wonder people assumed we were part of the Food Depot! Donors and even volunteers were confused, so please read on to The Name Change below.
We participate in the Food Depot’s Co-op Food Purchase Program, whereby we are able to secure at bulk prices the non-perishable items we put in the grocery bags. In addition to being the supplier of much of the bulk foodstuffs we need, Food Depot donates bread and produce—fruits and vegetables—they obtain from retailers and others who have an oversupply or consider the items not quite the top quality their customers demand, but that are still edible and safe for consumption. The families and individuals we serve are grateful for this addition that provides variety and we are pleased to include the nutrition that is added.

The Name Change
At its February 2014 meeting, the Board of Directors agreed to change our name. That was followed by seeking input from our various audiences about the idea of a name change and inviting suggestions.
At the April 2014 board meeting, board members voted unanimously to accept the favorite new name:
Feeding Santa Fe, Inc.
We have successfully taken the proper steps to make this change, although you may still hear the old name on occasion. Along with the new name, we have updated our logo, as shown at the top of this page.
Of course, our mission will remain the same; we have simply reintroduced ourselves as the vibrant, ongoing all-volunteer organization committed to alleviating hunger in our midst, as it has for so many years—with people of all ages and from all walks of life pitching in to help.
